How big is the field surface? Approximately 50 feet by 100 feet.
What kind of turf is it? Premium infill turf. The infill material is rubber crumb which provides support to players and keeps the turf from matting.
Why should we train on a smaller field surface? There are a few reasons, but the main ones are that a smaller training area improves player development, increases the number of touches for each player, and, of course, price.
You don't have to take our word for it, there is lots of information on the benefits of small sided play and long term player development at Alberta Soccer and Canada Soccer. The field is the size of a futsal court and can accommodate a full team for practice or small sided scrimmage of up to 5v5.
Why can't I wear my cleats on the turf? There have been studies that indicate that cleats should not be worn on artificial turf because of an increased risk of knee injuries, and ACL injuries in particular. Save your cleats for the outdoor pitch.
What is that smell? About 20,000lbs of rubber crumb. Minus the amount that people take home in their shoes (sorry). Eventually it will smell more like sweat and tears.
